At Novice difficulty, you take half damage but all NPCs take 2x damage, at Adept it's 1x for both and at Legendary you take 3x as much damage while NPCs only take 1/4x the damage. When my heavily modded Skyrim is set to Legendary, I basically just get one-shotted most of the time, so it's basically unplayable. can somebody maybe explain to me what I need for a good start at Legendary difficulty? The settings only change the damage multiplier so for example on master difficulty you do 0. Honestly I find the vanilla difficulty settings are all a bit lacking personally, expert and below are too easy except for some boss-tier enemies, master and above just make everything into a tedious damage sponge. Give them enchanted armor to increase their survivability and you can give them a Soul Trap enchanted weapon along with many empty soul gems to easily fill soul gems. You have to know where to go and what to kill when and how. So as the difficulty increases, you do less damage per attack and hostiles do more. This is what helped me at least. (Vanilla combat can be fun but early legendary is a bit too brutal for me. Combat is something I have to do in order to get the rewards I need. Once you master enchanting and alchemy every difficulty eventually becomes the exact same When you have a sword dealing 5 digit damage values and god armor it really doesn't make a difference what difficulty you're playing in terms of actual difficulty. This can be mitigated with restoration, which is very strong, especially in a legendary playthrough, but then I always feel stuck with a one-hand restoration and one-hand sword build (which is my opinion is the strongest build in the game). Melee is a little tedious too but it's more exciting in my opinion. As for legendary so long as they're using one of the worst level scaling systems in gaming (off the top of my head, only Oblivion and Fallout 3 were worse), the difficulty can stay at Adept and then start moving down as I level up and encounter random jerks with two-shot arrows. I'm not that good at combat anyway.
